Fast Food Conspiracy, Fat & Hungry, Nutrition by Natalie

We feed our pets food which is scientifically engineered for a balanced diet for their health. Out own food isn’t designed for health. Is it designed to keep us eating, fat and hungry?

The obesity rate in America has double in just half a decade. Sugar, MSG and low nutrient dense foods keep us hungry and eating and gaining weight.

According to Super Size Me, only 7 items on the McDonalds Menu do not contain added sugar.

Do we feed out pets better than we feed ourselves.

The Best Nutrition for Pregnant Women

19 Mar

Pregnancy is a time when your body begins to undergo sudden and rapid changes. There was a time when mothers to be were advised to eat enough for two. Today, this advice is way off the mark because new research finds that in terms of quantity, pregnant mothers need take in an extra 300 calories only. So, pregnant mothers who habitually eat enough for two may find themselves developing undesirable health conditions. Therefore, it is important for pregnant mothers to understand what kind of food is best for them and their baby.

Even if you have been eating a healthy diet prior to your pregnancy, you have to pay extra attention to what you eat when you are pregnant. A healthy diet is vital to a successful pregnancy because it ensures correct fetal growth and reduces complications.

Given below are a few guidelines regarding nutrition for pregnant women:

  • Avoid empty calories. Choose whole grain foods and substitute high calorie foods with foods that have higher nutritive value.

  • Pregnant women need approximately 1,500 mg of calcium everyday. This supplies enough calcium to the fetus for bone growth and prevents the mother from losing her bone density. In this regard, it is important to remember that most women do not get enough calcium even when they are not pregnant. So, extra effort has to be made to get the right amounts of calcium throughout pregnancy. Calcium rich foods include tofu, salmon, green leafy vegetables and dairy products.

  • Another important aspect of nutrition for pregnant women is regarding the need to stock up on food rich in iron. These include fish, poultry, eggs, enriched grains and green leafy vegetables. However, since iron absorption from food takes place at a very slow pace, many doctors advise the intake of iron supplements. Iron supplements often lead to constipation, though it may help if you take your supplements with food. To improve iron absorption, include food that is rich in vitamin C.

  • Folic acid is important to proper fetal growth. Taking in 400 mg of folic acid everyday can prevent more than 70% of birth defects commonly found in newborn babies. Natural foods like dark green vegetables, oranges, grains, beans, lean meat and liver are rich in folic acid. You also get folic acid supplements, and doctors often recommend the intake of prenatal vitamins that contain folic acid.

  • Pregnant mothers must not follow a restrictive diet. Do not skip meals. Eat enough to gain weight at the recommended rate. Include a variety of foods since this ensures that you are getting all the minerals and vitamins that your body needs. Eat at regular intervals so that your blood sugar levels do not peak and dip.

  • Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Avoid alcohol and quit smoking.

  • These days, it is common for pregnant women to take in large doses of supplements. Although some amount of fortified foods is helpful, large doses can cause health problems. So always discuss with your healthcare provider before you start taking supplements of any sort.

  • Pregnant women should avoid undercooked food, swordfish, mackerel and tilefish since these may contain high levels of Mercury.

By following these tenets of good nutrition, a pregnant mother can ensure the health and proper development of her baby. At the same time, she can also prevent unnecessary weight gain that may lead to health complications later on.

Bill Maher rant on Big Pharma – Pharmaceutical industry vs nutrition and common sense

18 Mar

http://www.FoodMattersMovie.com presents Bill Maher injecting his humor while squarely confronting the ridiculous dilemma allowing the pharmaceutical companies to influence the “health” system and program much of the population to “a pill for every ill” – driving health epidemics, side-effects, deaths and dependency on more reliance on the very sources that are largely responsible for health statistics that would have seemed impossibly dire just a generation ago.

An awakening is occurring now. Knowledge is power. Self responsibility is returning. The shocking truth and powerful, yet simple solutions are right before us.

Good Nutrition is the Secret for a Pain Free Life

17 Mar

Nutrition information and natural remedies are now being used by a large population in the United States and throughout the world.  People are looking for alternative ways to create health or recover from long standing illnesses.  Drugs have been applied for around a hundred years and we all know that they are good for emergencies and for short term use to get past health dangers.

By learning the nutritional basics or advanced principles, you can decide how to deal with an illness or disease you have or that your family has.  Most people that I have talked with have very little knowledge about nutrition and the amount that they do know was acquired from friends, parents or relatives.

Nutrition is actually a science, which can get quite complex in theory.  Nutrition information is concerned with the chemical make up of food, how this food is digested, how it is absorbed and used by your body.  It is all about how it is used to promote health, and how it is used to prevent and eliminated illness.

For the normal person, the nutrition they need to learn is the practical side of nutrition.  Learning some theory and mixing it with good practical nutritional habits is essential for maintaining your body free from illness.

Inflammation comes from excess acid in your body.  This acid is created from the foods you eat.  Eating certain foods leave an acid residue in your cells that then travels into the liquid surrounding your cells – lymph liquid. In the lymph liquid, this acid can damage the surrounding cells and tissue and in doing so starts the inflammation process.

Many scientists and medical researchers have uncovered the basic principles of the acid-alkaline body.  Maintaining an acid body, which many people have, is what creates and maintains various deadly diseases. Most pathogens like an acid body.  Cancer thrives in an acid body.

Nutrition is about how to maintain an alkaline body.  It points to the right foods to eat so that the correct minerals can become available to neutralize your acid body.  An acid body can be neutralized with minerals found in fruits and vegetables.

Nutrition says your body is bioelectrical.  Your body is run by electrical and chemical reactions.  You need to discover what foods support these electrical and chemical activities.  Without the right electrical activities in your body, your cells will not get the right nutrition, which is necessary for your survival.  Nutrition is also about discovering what food, nutrients and minerals your body needs and what illness you develop if you don’t get them.

To learn the correct practical, nutrition information is now possible on the internet.  In the past learning nutrition was only available in books, tapes, and seminars.  But now, you can get on the Internet and find excellent courses that will help you learn how you can be free of disease or acquire excellent health.  Start now to discover how you can become a semi-expert in nutrition for yourself and for you family.

I have to come up with an activity for little kids in either health, safety, or nutrition?

17 Mar

In my college young kids course i have to come up with an easy game/activity to teach kids about health, safety, or nutrition. Any ideas are welcome, thanks

Safety:
Find a movie about the dangers of talking to strangers. You can make up scenarios the kids and act it out in class. You could also talk about safely crossing the street. Bring in a bright orange vest, a whistle, and stop sign and pretend to be a traffic director. Demonstrate how the director would direct traffic and allow them to safely cross the street.

Health/Nutrition:
Make up a matching game. Bring in cards that have different fruits and veggies on one side and mix them up and make the kids match them up correctly. Teach the kids what each fruit or vegetable is before playing the game and add a twist to it by making them say the fruit or vegetable once they find the match. You can also time the game to make it a competition.

Warning: Don’t bring in any food for the children to eat unless you get the OK from the parents first. Some students might be allergic. I’m deathly allergic to bananas. They make my throat swell up and I break out in hives. And my friend’s allergic to the peach fuzz on peaches. It breaks her out in hives if she touches/rub the peaches for too long.

The Secret Of Reducing The Risk Of Prostate Problems With Proper Nutrition

15 Mar

Proper nutrition can improve your prostate health. But are you getting enough nutrition from your regular diet? A number of studies show that poor diet can cause the prostate gland to function below optimal level. So, what do you eat everyday?

A good diet for prostate health should consist of fruits and vegetables as they are rich with nutrients, phytochemicals, fiber, and antioxidants. Do you eat tomatoes, soy, and cruciferous vegetables such as brussel sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens, cabbage, and broccoli? These foods can help to prevent prostate cancer.

Soybeans contain isoflavones or plant estrogens which mimic the estrogens in your body. Soy isoflavones reduces male hormone levels, delays the growth of cancerous cells and kills tumor. These may prevent prostate cancer from occurring. If you dislike soy foods, think about adding soy protein powder to your diet.

You should cut down the consumption of high-fat meat and dairy products. Recent studies indicate that high intake of calcium, mostly from dairy products expose men to an increased risk of prostate cancer and advanced prostate cancer. Asian men tend to experience lower incidence of prostate problems because they eat lots of vegetables, fish, and soy foods. They eat less red meat and milk-based goods.

An increase intake of fish can enhance your prostate health. The abundance of DHA and EPA in fish benefit your prostate. The risk of prostate cancer for men who eat less fish increases by 44 percent compared to those who eat plenty of fish.

Diet that is rich with beta-sitosterol can prevent you from developing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP). It stops the testosterone from converting to dihydrotestosterone that causes the enlargement of prostate. So, eat more of beta-sitosterol concentrated food such as peanuts, wheat germ, soy, rice bran, and corn oils.

If your diet cannot supply sufficient nutrition for optimal prostate health, then you can take supplements. Daily multi-vitamin helps to overcome any lack of nutrition needed for your prostate in your busy lifestyle. Make sure your multi-vitamin supplements contain lycopene, selenium, isoflavones, vitamin E, and beta carotene. Usually high fat food contain lots of vitamin E. It makes more sense to supplement for extra vitamin E. These dietary supplements are essential for your prostate health.

During the treatment for prostate cancer, you have to eat right and obtain sufficient nutrition. But you will find it a challenge to strictly follow a balanced cancer diet. While your body is making an effort to combat against cancer, it also has to repair damaged cells due to chemotherapy. This creates extra burdens on your body. Moreover, the chemotherapy will drain you and spoil your appetite. This is another reason for you to take supplements to provide all the essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals you need to maintain a balanced cancer diet.

To get sufficient nutrition for your prostate health, you should eat more vegetables, fruits, and soy. Consume red meat and dairy products moderately. Changes in your diet and lifesytle can elevate your prostate health and minimize the risk of prostate cancer. Regular exercise and maintaining an ideal weight can also contribute to better prostate health.

Online Nutrition Education, This Information Will Enhance Your Quality Of Life on A Daily Basis

13 Mar

An online nutrition education is needed by those who are constantly feeling tired, stressed out and listless. These are a few signs that you could be lacking in proper nutrition. Those who always eat fast food should definitely be concerned about getting proper nutrition.

If you find that the only thing you have eaten is a donut and coffee, you will definitely be feeling the physical effects of a lack of nutrition. Do you suffer from a lack of mental clarity, weakness and irritability? These are all signs that you have not given your body enough healthy food to eat.

Do you or your children indulge in high calorie diets on a regular basis? Then you should easily notice the effects of over nutrition. Weight gain and related symptoms will also sap your energy and put a strain on your system.

Maintaining a proper diet is crucial to feeling good, strong and alert. If you have been suffering from a diet that lacks nutrition, or an over indulgence in nutrition, you will certainly feel the effects soon enough. Online nutrition education would show that you may even be setting yourself up for more serious disease.

You must obtain the necessary calories every day to maintain optimum health. When you do not take in the proper amount of calories you may experience:

1. ill health

2. physical disability

3. problems with absorption

4. begin to loose weight

5. lack concentration

6. and maybe even loose the function of vital organs

A diet too high in calories will also put your health at risk. More common than under nutrition in developed countries, obesity puts a strain on the organs and increases the risk for health problems such as:

1. diabetes

2. heart disease

3. and even cancer.

The serving size of food is crucial in taking on the appropriate amount of calories. Parents should teach their children to adopt moderate eating habits. This will ensure good eating habits for life.

Watching calorie intake is not the only important aspect of your diet that you should monitor. Online nutrition education will allow us to see that nutritional value is important as well. You could eat an entire box of doughnuts to meet your calorie needs. But would you have met your daily requirements for vitamins, protein, calcium and other minerals?

A diet that lacks nutrition will lead to:

1. low resistance to illness

2. general weakness

3. irritability

4. lack of calcium

5. which can lead to osteoporosis.

Pregnant women, lactating women, the elderly and ill individuals may choose to supplement their diet with multi vitamins. However, the average healthy person should get all the nutrition they need in a normal diet that includes fruit, vegetables, protein, dairy and fiber.

Fast food in the diet is not harmful if it is only an occasional treat. Over the long haul though, it will show its negative effects if consumed as a major part of your diet. Educating yourself and your family on what a healthy diet is will help you and your family feel great and enjoy good health.

10 Ways To Improve Your Health

11 Mar

Choosing a healthy lifestyle can benefit you in several ways. It gives you a boost of energy and makes your body feel more in tune. It is important to identify ways you can improve your health.

Following are ten things that you can do to promote optimal nutrition:

1. Watch what you eat. Your meals should consist of a healthy daily balance of foods. Knowing your nutritional needs and not eating too much or too little can lead to a more balanced lifestyle. There are several resources to consult in order to determine your body’s needs.

2. Sleep. When you are sleep-deprived, your body begins to shut down. Make sure that you feel rested from getting an adequate amount of sleep. This will allow your body to function at a consistent and optimal speed every day.

3. Take vitamins and supplements. Paying attention to where your diet feels lacking. Once you have determined this, you can compensate with vitamins and supplements.

4. Exercise. You should exercise at least four or five times per week. Exercise helps your body to build muscle, lose weight and can help prevent illness and disease.

5. Fight addictions. Avoid over or under eating. This can easily disrupt your nutritional balance and cause serious problems.

6. Keep learning. There are several different definitions of improving health. Improving heath not only means diets, but there are holistic approaches that can be a part of your lifestyle. Keep researching and studying to determine what is and is not effective to help you in improving and maintaining your health.

7. Stay motivated. It is easy to begin working on improving our health and it is also easy to discontinue once we don’t see immediate results. A major aspect of improving your health is remaining consistent and motivated in your activities. It is important to make health care an every day priority.

8. Get the right body measurements. Getting your body mass index taken, as well as finding where you need to focus your efforts in order to improve health can help you in staying motivated in improving your health.

9. Build a network. A network includes not only those that can provide information for you, but also support and assist you in building and maintaining health.

10. Consult. There are a variety of health care providers and nutritionists that can help you. If you are uncertain about necessary steps to take, get in touch with the right person to determine what you need to do.

You can help yourself to live a more fulfilled life by consistently working towards improving your health. By knowing what you need to do and by following those steps, you can be assured that you will attain better nutrition and energy.

What’s the Deal with Organic Foods? Part 2

10 Mar

Nutrition by Natalie

What is the difference between organic food and conventional food? Is organic really more healthy for you?

The USDA lays out certain guidelines that farms have to follow in order to be able to claim the food is organic. In this video Natalie discusses what each of those guidelines are.

What is surprising to learn is some of the growing practices of conventional farming and food processing. As an example, chemical plants and waste water treatment facilities will actually sell their toxic waist to conventional farms to use for fertilizer.
