health and nutrition question?

10 Mar

I have to do a report about nutrition and all my books arn’t answering my questions,
1) what is the differance between calories and total fat?
2) Which foods are high in calories but low in fat?
3)which foods are high in fat but low on calories?
4) Which is worse?
I tried googling it and all but everything overcomplicates things, thanks.

There are 3 main sources of calories: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Fats are a more concentrated source of calories than the other two, so it is difficult to find a food that is high in fat but low in calories. However, there are lots of foods that are high in calories but low in fat: sugar, for one! Just look at all the low-fat items in the supermarket: a lot of them will still be high in calories because of the carbohydrates. Whole grains and legumes are healthy because they provide calories but are low in fat.

Here is a site with nutritional information about specific foods:

http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/nutrient-search

You can search for foods that are high in calories but low in fat, or whatever other combination you want. Then you will get the idea.

Generally, it is better for foods to be low in fat. High-fat diets, especially where the fat comes from animal products, are associated with heart disease, cancer, and many other health problems.

Nutrition is overcomplicated, and there is a lot of contradictory information out there. Good luck with your report.

Mind/Body Nutrition

CDs – 7 Compact Discs/2 Bonus CDs/40page Workbook About Mind/Body Nutrition Are you sick of struggling with food? Fighting with your desires, avoiding what you really want, and eating things you don’t like in order to lose weight-only to watch the pounds come back on the minute you veer off course. Are you tired of the no pain-no gain mentality that says you won’t ever look and feel as great as you want to without a huge amount of effort and sacrifice? Workouts that feel like a punishment; exercises that end up doing your joints and muscles more harm than good. Are you fed up with the ever-changing information you hear regarding what is “good” for you and what isn’t? One day they tell you bread and pasta should make up most of your diet. The next, it’s high-protein, low-carb. First you’re tracking calories, then you’re counting fiber grams. All you want-all any of us wants-is to look good, feel good, and be healthy, inside and out. It’s the getting those things that’s the problem. It takes so much work. So much willpower. So much sacrifice. Or does it? In Mind/Body Nutrition Your Energy, Eat Without Stress, and Transform Your Health, esteemed nutritional researcher, counselor, and author Marc David tells you everything he has discovered-and science has proven-about how to naturally achieve the body, state of health, and lifestyle of enjoyment you want. Mind/Body Nutrition will take your focus off the food on your plate and tune it in to the “brain in your belly”- the true control center of your metabolic processes, which holds the key to weight loss without deprivation, and health and well-being without sacrifice. Discover the Foundation of Good Living….. Good Health

09 Mar

Right or Wrong…almost all deficiencies in our health as we get older are normal and we can do nothing about it?

Right or Wrong…all the nutrients we require can be found in our normal daily intake?

Our current food supply has two major problems:

· Around 61% of the population is overweight because we eat too much.

· The minimum amount of nutrients we need are not contained in the food we do eat.

Take Spinach for example.

Spinach had 158 milligrams of iron per hundred grams when you bought it in 1948.Spinach you bought in 1965 0nly had 27 milligrams. By 1973 it was averaging 2.2. It would mean eating 75 bowls of spinach to get the same iron content as you did in one bowl in1948. Cobalt is also necessary to process B12, which gives us healthy red blood cells. Most of the vegetables of today test zero for cobalt.

We have depleted the topsoil so much that the vegetables we grow in it can’t obtain the necessary vitamins and minerals we need for optimum health.

Typically our daily diet does not contain the necessary proteins, vitamins, and minerals to efficiently replace dying cells in our bodies. Continually falling short of these weakens our immune system.

Can you say for sure you are getting the 13 essential vitamins, 20 essential amino acids, and the 14 essential mineral’s that will ensure your good health daily?

Is your health being looked out for?

Consumer demands have been responded to by the food industry to meet our increasingly fast paced lifestyles. Of course these quickly prepared processed foods lack the proper nutrients for good health. Eliminating the totally fresh food part of our diet with high calorie low nutrient foods the can cause weight gain. Preferences have moved toward low cost, tasty, quick food.

The media promotes the highly processed food that is being offered. Due to a lack of training in our conventional education system this advertising overwhelms people and replaces good nutritional education.

Health responsibility seems to have become the province of work health schemes and and other health care organizations.

The food and medical lobby dominates Government support of public health, their agenda being one of sales and profits, not looking out for others illness prevention, and sensible nutritional intake.

Good health or bad health, which one will you pay for?

Taking control of your and your families health is easy. First ensure they get good nutrition and exercise. It’s very difficult to maintain a balanced diet today so perhaps investing part of your food budget in good supplements will help keep minimum recommended levels of vitamins and minerals up.

Nutrition…. all the health insurance you need!

Nutritional Products

Clayton is unaccredited and should be avoided at all costs. They claim a fake accreditation, which has no meaning at all.

Good Health, or a Good Health Care Plan

03 Mar

If you had to have one or the other which would you take? You may or should be making that decision. As you probably know, health care costs are through the roof.

It can and does put a lot of folks in a pinch. They can’t pay them even if they have insurance sometimes. Medical bill can easily lead to bad credit and financial disaster.

Also, I just heard on the news the other night how some emergency rooms are having to turn people away. They send them to other hospitals and people are having to wait hours in emergency rooms for care, or even a bed or place to sit. They don’t expect that to improve any time soon in most cities.

The best plan is preventative medicine. Stay as healthy as you can so you won’t have to worry about medical bills or waiting to see a doctor. Just like you plan for retirement, you should be planning for good health for your “Golden Years”.

You may not be able to tell that you are slowly killing yourself or working your way up to future health problems now, but unless you are paying attention to what you are eating and getting some kind of physical activities you will probably not be able to enjoy a lot of things later in life or sooner.

Being able to travel, play with your grandkids, or even breath, or walk might just not happen.

Eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods is not costly or difficult. You just need to take a little time and with a little help you can have excellent health for years. Add some daily fitness to your routine and improve your health even more.

You don’t have to be overweight to start a diet, or weight loss program. Those are the best places to learn proper nutrition and good foods from the bad foods, and also how to exercise.

After studying nutrition and weight loss for many years now, I have to caution you on some of the ridiculous diets I have seen though. I almost want to laugh at some of them, but it is not really funny, it is mostly scary. If you see a diet or weight loss plan that says something like, you will lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks, don’t do it. That is worse for your health than not going on a diet at all. You will suffer through something it and it will more than likely cause health problems later. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

A good healthy, nutritional diet or weight loss plan will have a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates (the complex ones, not simple carbs), fibers, and fats (the good ones, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated). Your body does need all of these things. It needs to be nourished all day to keep your metabolism up and burning off calories and fats. Study after study has proven this, but still people seem to want to try to change mother nature. I don’t understand. They do starvation diets, cut out carbohydrates, try living on just one kind of food, and all sorts of crazy things that just don’ t work. Sure, maybe short term, you might lose a lot of weight for a short time, but why just short term. Learn how to eat the proper nutrition and it is easy to do it for the rest of your life. You can actually eat a “bad food” every now and then and live through it with any good diet or weight loss plan. I found it is best to enjoy a “bad food” every now and then and not make eating healthy a torturous thing. One bad meal doesn’t mean you won’t lose weight that week if you are dieting. It’s all about knowing and teaching yourself what bad foods and drinks do to your body and then keeping them to a bare minimal, or stop consuming them completely. There are so many good alternatives that I am sure you will enjoy. Like dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. It’s that simple.

The other important part of good health is physical activities. Your body starts losing muscle with age. Of coarse you need all your muscles for a lot of reasons. A toned body will burn fat and calories quickly, and it will protect your joints and just plain keep you fit and feeling that way. Aerobic exercise is good, but strength exercises I do believe is much better. A mixture of both is best.

You don’t have to devote all of your time and your life to diet, nutrition, & exercise. Just a very small part of it and that hour or two a day that you spend cooking healthy, eating healthy, and exercise will pay off greatly in the coming years. Think of it this way, it is like paying yourself thousands of dollars a day for spending the time, because that is what you will be saving in medical bills later on if you don’t. Not to mention all the things you won’t be able to do because of bad health.

One last thing. Don’t procrastinate. Start now! There is no reason to put it off. If you say you are going to wait till after Christmas, or New Years, why? Like I said earlier, you can still have a “bad food” or a “bad meal” and then just start back eating the right way afterwards. Learn about good nutrition now and get started. Just think, the better your health and food intake is now, then it won’t be as bad by Christmas or New Years. You will be able to easily drop the extra calories you gain then. Also the better your nutrition is, the less likely it is that you will catch a cold or the flu. Get and stay healthy starting today.

Question for health and nutrition experts?

03 Mar

Does fat loss / weight loss from exercise differ in appearence from fat loss / weight loss from dieting?

Yes, when combined weight loss is achieved through proper nutrition AND with physical activity the body is more toned, and the overall metabolic rate is increased due to increase lean tissue.

It is ALWAYS recommended with both, not with JUST one or the other. Always both.

How to Obtain Optimal Health

01 Mar

You should already know that nutrition is very important to your quality of life. If you want to have a healthy life and lifestyle, you will need to have a healthy diet with proper nutrition. You might hear all the time that your nutrition greatly affects the way you live and your quality of life but have you ever really thought about why? Do you really understand why it is so important?

If you really want to take the steps to live the long life that you deserve and to be as healthy as possible and enjoy those years, than you need to learn all you can about the importance of optimal nutrition.  What you eat really affects your body and health.

1. What is optimal nutrition?
2. What nutrients do you need to be healthy?
3. What foods give you these nutrients?

Importance of Optimal Nutrition

Optimal nutrition is very important to your overall health and fitness. Studies have shown that people can actually live longer if they have healthy nutrition. It is proven that there is a link between optimal nutrition and long life and long term health.

If you take a look at society, you will notice an increasingly large number of people that are overweight and obese. You will also see problems such as poor teeth and acne, dry, brittle skin, dry hair and other problems. You will find many people on medications for headache, stomach problems, acid reflux, constipation, heart disease, high blood pressure and more. What may be more alarming than the high amount of medications is the fact that most people receive very little information about what is actually causing their disease or condition. Instead, they get a pill.

What many people never know is that what they are eating (or not eating) can be causing these health problems.  You also need to understand that you will have to make changes and adjustments to your intake over the years and stages of your life. Just like toddlers need a different diet from teenagers, you also need to alter your diet as you continue through all of life’s stages. Understanding what is best for you through each stage of your life is the best way to remain in optimal health.

Micro and Macronutrients

Many people hear that they need proper nutrition but just what does that mean exactly? What nutrients do you need to be healthy? Optimal nutrition will include a variety of different micronutrients and macronutrients. Micronutrients include certain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Macronutrients include carbohydrates, proteins and fats that make up the foods you eat.

There is too often a lot of myth surrounding the nutrients, our bodies and how we use these nutrients. This is why it is very important that you get all the facts when planning to change your lifestyle and diet. Many people are suffering from malnutrition and may not even know it. Many overweight individuals may be suffering from malnutrition. Just because you are eating does not mean you are eating the right things.

Micronutrients are the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that your body needs to be healthy. The specific ones and amounts of each will depend on your body, sex, age and other factors. Every person is different so there is not one set plan that works for everyone. You need to learn what works for you. As you change, grow older, etc. this will change again and you will continue to have to adjust this.

Macronutrients are the carbs, proteins and fats that you get from foods. The amounts of these that you need will vary as well. This is where many myths come in about what you should or should not eat. The facts are that too much of anyone can be bad and not enough can be bad. It’s all about finding a balance. This means those “All-Carb” or “No Carb” diets that are so popular on the market are really not the best thing for you.

What you choose to ingest in your body has a big impact on your overall health and your general well-being. People now eat more fast foods and frozen dinners and other quick meals that are not very nutritious at all. Some of these foods even have additives in them that can make them addictive so that you want more and more. People typically eat out of hunger and many of these foods do not work to satisfy your hunger leaving you wanting more or something else. Yet, they still have many calories and fat and other things that your body does not need.

Make the Committment

If you are serious in obtaining optimal health to the best of your ability, then take a look at your lifestyle in general. Are you eating the right foods? Are you exercising? Are you getting plenty of fresh air on a daily basis? Do you have positive relationships? If you find yourself answering “no” to these questions, then make the commitment to change. Talk with your family, friends, or a nutritionist. Check to see if there are support groups in your area related to health and lifestyle changes. Look into joining your local gym. Do your research and then purchase the right nutritional supplements that will help you achieve your goals.

If you at least try to make a change in one area, more are sure to follow! You are now on your way to optimal health.
