Why do media like CNN talk so much about health and nutrition, but never cover drug use in schools?

17 Apr

Isn’t illegal drug abuse the greatest threat to the health of our youth. Why the silence in the media?

Nutrition affects everyone, it’s a very broad category. Illegal drug abuse and addiction is the number one problem in sickness at work, emergency room visits and I don’t know where you get your stats on youth, but if you include alcohol, it’s not hard to believe.

There is lots of information and stories that can be written about nutrition, but how can you write countless stories about drug abuse? Abuse often graduates to teen violence, mental health issues or is not detected.

There isn’t anything new, it’s not up to the media to find ways of dealing with the problem aside from the usual-how to tell if your kids are using drugs. It’s a sub-sector of health. There are journals that cover that specific subject that would come into the office-nothing worth printing.

I worked at a newspaper for 30 years and am a recovered addict. AP and other wire services would have the odd story, but nothing really important. If there was anything I could of written about I would of. I sit on the addiction board at the regulating body of doctors and physicians as well.

    Because people want to know about health and Nutrition its what interests people; Interests = Sales

    Interests = majority people
    Drugs = minority

    they will go for the majority 110%
